Guide to Online Gambling Laws Uruguay
The history of gambling regulation in Uruguay dates back to 1819, when the first lottery was held. Over time, the government began allowing both state-owned and privately owned land-based casinos to operate, with oversight provided by the General Directorate of Casinos (DGC).
While online gambling remains largely unregulated, some steps have been taken. A significant development occurred in January 2022 when the government introduced an online gambling bill to parliament. However, this bill still awaits approval.
Currently, offshore online casinos are banned from operating within the country, but many of them still accept Urguayan players.
